Frank Galvez's The American Nutcracker Gallery
Classic ballet in two Acts. Music by P. I. Tchaikovsky. Frank Galvez' s choreography and staging after the original by Lev Ivanov. It all began when Marius Petipa, a famous choreohrapher, was inspired to create a ballet based on a children's story by E.T.A. Hoffmann titled der Nussknacker und der Mausekonig (The nutcracker and the King of Mice). He took his idea to composer Tchaikovsky, who agreed to write the music, but Petipa became ill and had to pass the role of choreographer to his assistant Lev Ivanov. First presented in the United States in complete form by the San Francisco Ballet in 1944 with choreography by William Christensen. It has almost become a kind of annual Christams ritual in many American cities. In the first Act, Clara is in the real world but begins a journey to the magical Kingdom on the second, where the Sugar Plum Fairy welcomes her with the full candy box. Chocolates and Coffee and Tea Sweets, Candy Canes, Marzipan, Gingerbread cookies, and lovely Dew Drops. The overture of the ballet is bright and delicate. Pizzicato strings and tinkling triangles create a light, intimate atmosphere that sets the stage for the action. Frank Galvez created his own version in 1994, based on the book by E.T.A. Hoffmann and called it The American Nutcracker , set in the NorthEast of the United States of America in the 19th century. Galvez 's production portraits a beautiful, old-fashioned Victorian Christmas tree, all decorated in red, white and blue, thrilling battle scene, exquisite American costumes including party boys dressed as cowboys, impressive special effects, illusions and magical tricks. Although it is a very lash production, the values of The American Nutcracker remain the same, the celebration of family, tradition, and love, so essential to the holiday season. Galvez infused the ballet with a style that expresses the festivity and ambiance of an American Christmas.
GALVEZ'S CHOREOGRAPHIC REPERTORY

Some of these creations are performed by many ballet companies around the world and they can be found on Youtube.com under 'Frank Galvez'.
