The American Nutcracker
The American Nutcracker was created by Frank Galvez in 1994 in the city of FortLauderdale,
Florida. The idea was to give this magnificent production an american twist by relocating the story to a small town in the Northeast of United States of America, and adding our true colors red, white, and blue in costumes and scenary.
In the premiere the role of the Sugar Plum Fairy was performed by Lucia Montero, and Herr Cavalier was performed by Edward Ellison, at that time a principal dancer with the San Francisco Ballet. In 1998 Galvez and Montero re-staged this production for the Lexington Ballet Company in Kentucky, where it was performed consecutively until 2002.
The Galmont Ballet Melbourne premiere of Galvez's "The American Nutcracker" was on December of 2004, where our audience was delighted by this lavish production that includes elaborated costumes, colorful scenary, magical and pyrotechnical effects. Throughout these 12 years staging this production, Galvez and Montero have been delighted to see the training and transformation of little angels, soldiers, and mice during the first year, becoming beautiful Sugar Plum Fairies later on. It is a beautiful tradition that honors our philosophy of featuring young dancers, trained by Galvez and Montero, in such important role ...from little Angels to Sugar Plum Fairy...
This is the most important and significant production of the year for us. It is done by all our children for all the children of our community.
